  1. Make semen more easily accessible worldwide for the Pyrenean Mastiff.

  2. Help relieve costs associated with collecting, shipping and storing frozen semen.

  3. Start conservatory efforts for genetic material for the future.

About

The purpose of the Pyrenean Mastiff Association of America Reproduction Bank is to collect, store and distribute reproductive material (currently frozen semen) from Pyrenean Mastiffs worldwide in an effort to preserve and protect future generations.

Reproduction Bank at a Glance
How does this bank work?

The Reproduction Bank accepts deposits of semen from purebred Pyrenean Mastiffs and owners of bitches who qualify can withdraw the semen of their choice for a mating pending stud owner or committee approval.

Can any male donate?

Yes, any purebred Pyrenean Mastiff worldwide can donate semen.

Are there any requirements?
Males and females using the Bank must have minimum health testing completed as per the PMAA Code of Ethics, as of 9/3/24 this includes hip and elbow x-rays, and genetic testing. An AKC DNA profile completed and submitted.

Any exceptions?
We will accept semen from deceased dogs (with or without testing) whose sperm was frozen prior to the establishment of the PMAA Reproduction Bank. We will accept semen from dogs that are too young to have their hips and elbows evaluated by OFA, under the condition that testing be completed within 1 year of the dog turning 2 years of age. If testing is not completed within the permitted time the semen is released to the ownership of PMAA's Reproduction Committee to decide if it will be destroyed or put in conservatory.

Who decides which semen goes to which bitch?
The owner of the stud does or the PMAA Reproduction Committee. Stud owners do not lose control or ownership of the semen while it is managed by the PMAA Reproduction Bank. The PMAA Reproduction Bank only has ownership of semen that has been expressly released or donated to PMAA. PMAA reserves the right to limit number of breeding units released to the public and how many will be placed in long term conservatory.

Will the Bank be in conflict with stud owners?
No. No Dog's semen will be released from the Bank until there is no more semen available from that dog from other sources or stud owner specifies it is free to be released.

Can the puppies sired by frozen semen owned by the bank be registered with the AKC.
Yes. The AKC has approved the Ownership of Semen by the Reproduction Bank, (a non-profit organization).

Donate Semen to the Reproduction Bank

Semen collection donations can be made directly to the Reproduction Bank, donations relinquish ownership of the semen to PMAA. This is not the same as the PMAA Semen bank managing semen on behalf of stud owners.
